Difficult Perce-Neige Maniwaki

February 6, 2011

2011 Rallye Perce-Neige Maniwaki wasn’t easy from the start.

I found myself shivering with a fever at 4 AM the night before the rally.

Getting up wasn’t easy. But, thanks to the adrenalin, when the stage starts, you feel 100%. I was pretty confident that my driving wasn’t effected.

The strategy was to take it easy and finish. The stage times sucked, and I had problems getting into the rhythm. We drove conservatively until the last 3 stages, but decided to try something new with setup and take more chances with driving. Setup changes worked, I felt better in the car.

Second to last stage (Tortue Nord) is the stage where we crashed off last year. This year we went off on the same stage, just 4 kilometers further. Unfortunately, I’m still not sure what caused the crash. Onboard footage will help.

We eventually got the car going with the help of sweep and drove it back to Maniwaki. By that time I felt so sick, that I fell asleep on the highway… thank god, Martin Headland timely grabbed the steering wheel.

Not our best rally, but I have learned some new things, and we’ll be back next year.

Subaru baby. Do that in a Ford, and your Dead! Of course it helps that he hit that teopnhlee pole at just the right angle, folding the back of the car without damaging the wheels or drive system. Still, I don’t see any other brand of car on the rally circuit continuing after such a severe impact.
